Community Involvement

We live where you do.

(Well, not exactly where you do, that would make us roommates. We’d be the cool roommate, though – the one that makes good lasagna and cleans the bathroom.)

Linn Area Credit Union participates in, sponsors and donates to many charitable organizations in the community. We also look to educate people whenever possible so they can make good financial decisions. For example, we offer “lunch and learns” to our business partners where we serve lunch as well as present an educational topic. Our seminars are pretty popular, too. They’re held at our main office and they cover topics from identity theft protection, to buying a home for the first time, to navigating the college financial aid process.

Out in the community…
Linn Area Credit Union sponsors The Teacher Store, the only one of its kind in Iowa. The Teacher Store is a non-profit organization that provides free classroom materials and supplies to area educators and their students.
	Simply put, people with IDAs (Individual Development Accounts) have their savings account funds matched when saving for certain goals. Here, Sandra is presenting a check to a member who had his savings matched for an educational goal. Click here for more info about IDAs.

The Children’s Miracle Network at the University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital is our primary charity and we have several fundraisers for it throughout the year. We present our check at the annual CMN radiothon. In 2010, Jenny Lorenz, our Executive Vice President, proudly presented a check for over $28,000.
There is almost always some representation of Linn Area Credit Union at community events. For the 2010 Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer, LACU had 32 people there that ran or walked for the cause.
	The flood that consumed Cedar Rapids in 2008 was difficult for everyone in the community. Linn Area allowed many of its employees to use work time to go help sandbag, clean up houses, or work on the Salvation Army trucks, handing out lunches to flood-relief workers. LACU also provided $50,000 in grants to its members who were displaced by the flood.

Balloon Glow is a Freedom Festival Event that is sponsored by Linn Area Credit Union every year. This family-friendly event is held at Brucemore.
