We love teachers!
Located in downtown Cedar Rapids, The Teacher Store is a non-profit organization that provides free classroom materials and supplies to area educators in exchange for “Teacher Bucks.” The Teacher Store is made possible by The Cedar Rapids Education Association (CREA) and Linn Area Credit Union.
Principal Brian Krob of Wright Elementary in Cedar Rapids arranged Wright’s second annual field trip to The Teacher Store.
Twenty-five teachers had a great time spending their Teacher Bucks on sharpened pencils, storage containers, Kleenex, Clorox wipes, Velcro, tape, erasers… you name it! Thanks for stopping by. Hope you all have a great school year!
If you would like to set up a field trip for the teachers at your school, contact Lori Vana at firstname.lastname@example.org or (319) 892-7361.
Educators can earn Teacher Bucks by participating in activities in the schools, volunteering at The Teacher Store or by opening an account, taking out a loan or getting a credit card at Linn Area Credit Union. Teacher Bucks are also available through the CREA. And the best part is, even one teacher buck goes a long way; you will get MANY dollars worth of materials. Yayyyy!
The Teacher Store is stocked entirely with donations, so our supply is always changing. Here are the types of items you can expect to find:
- pencils & pens
- post-it notes
- glue sticks
- Clorox Wipes
- facial tissue
- paper towels
- hand sanitizer
- apparel (youth sizes)
- file folders
- …and much more!
The Teacher Store is staffed completely by volunteers, usually two each shift. We couldn’t keep the store open without them! All volunteers receive Teacher Bucks in return for the time they give. Sign up to volunteer! (You will be taken to the Signup Genius website).
Note: Please indicate if you are a first-time volunteer so we can make sure someone is available to train you (it’s really easy!) and get you into the store.
We gladly accept donations of supplies from businesses, organizations and the public. If you’re a teacher who is retiring, moving to another grade level, or if you simply no longer need certain classroom materials, we’ll take those gently used items off your hands and supply them to another teacher! (Educational resource books are not needed, but books for classroom libraries are very much appreciated.)
Since we are run entirely by volunteers, please check the schedule to make sure we’re open before you head on down! If there are no volunteers scheduled that day, we won’t be open.
Cash donations are also welcome and will be used to purchase additional inventory for the store. Every donation is much appreciated! A special thank you to area businesses and organizations who support The Teacher Store!
We are located at 606 5th Ave SE in Cedar Rapids (next to Kathy’s Pies).
As of June 6, 2017, we have started summer hours: Tuesday and Thursday 9 – 11am.
