Check Out Your Credit Report
Everyone is entitled to one free copy of their credit report each year (and requesting it will not affect your credit score). Go to annualcreditreport.com for a free copy of your credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies – it’s good to check your credit report to make sure everything is correct and to monitor for fraudulent activity.
You can order all three credit reports at one time, or at different times throughout the year. It’s your choice.
Each report will show your credit history but not your credit score. If you would like to receive your credit score, you can have it added to your report for a small fee.
Once you receive your copy, go through it closely. It will list each credit card and loan you’ve had recently, give a breakdown of your payment history, and show the companies that have reviewed your credit file. If a listing doesn’t make sense, you can call the business and report the inaccuracy to the credit bureaus.
