On Thursday, August 26, we held our 31st annual Credit Unions Love Kids golf tournament to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN)/University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. More than $17,500 was raised at the event, and our employees and members donated additional funds to bring the 2021 total to $22,408.91. (Woohoo!)

The golf tournament was kicked off with a brief presentation by Rick Kron, whose son, Nile, has been hearing impaired since birth. Nile received cochlear implants at the age of two and is still receiving periodic treatments at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. As Nile played with a toy golf set, his father explained to the attendees the life-changing impact CMN has made on the Kron family.

The Credit Unions Love Kids golf tournament is the creation of our former CEO/President Jenny Lorenz. Since the tournament’s inception, Linn Area Credit Union has donated a whopping $502,376.83 to CMN.

“It’s an honor to support the Children’s Miracle Network — it’s such a worthy cause,” Jenny said. “A lot goes into making this event a success. We appreciate all of our sponsors and the golfers, many of whom come from area credit unions, as well as the Linn Area Credit Union employees who plan the event and volunteer to work at the golf tournament every year.” The credit union philosophy is “people helping people,” and the Credit Unions Love Kids golf tournament is an excellent example of this philosophy in action!

Usually held in the spring, the Credit Unions Love Kids golf tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. The 2022 event is slated for May 26.
