At Linn Area Credit Union, we love to support our community and have fun along the way! As you may know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Sunday, October 9, more than 65 Linn Area employees and family members participated in the 32nd annual Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer. Our team had a great time walking together, and we even had a few team members who ran the 5K! (The weather was absolutely gorgeous!)
Once again, the Especially for You Race organizers invited us to create chalk art for the event, and we were happy to oblige! Two members of Linn Area’s marketing department (plus a family member) chalked a supersized portrait on the walk in front of the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center. The 10×18-foot piece featured Sandy Knight, the breast cancer survivor who started the Especially for You support group and helped establish the Especially for You Fund. In 1991, Sandy lost her fight against breast cancer, and the Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer is dedicated to her memory.
The total number of people registered for the race this year was 15,800, which topped 2011’s all-time high of 15,792 registrants. There was also a record-breaking number of teams this year: 536! The race raised more than $499,500 in race registrations. Proceeds benefit the Especially for You Fund, which provides financial assistance for mammography, biopsies, ultrasounds, and gynecological services for area individuals in need.
